16 prisoners have regained their freedom in Kwara state courtesy the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Sulyman Kawu.
The chief judge visited two prisons in Ilorin, the state capital, and expressed regret that some prisons are congested with those awaiting trial.
He said his visit was not meant to undermine the court process but was due to the need to decongest most prisons.
Justice Kawu said President Mohammadu Buhari had already written to the state governors in this regard.
And after reviewing the cases, the chief judge found 16 prisoners worthy of freedom.
