Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick has apologised to Nigerians after the country was sanctioned by FIFA for fielding an ineligible player in their final World Cup qualifier against Algeria in November.
FIFA awarded Algeria 3 points and 3 goals after Shehu Abdullahi, who was suspended for the game was fielded.
The match in Constantine ended in a 1-1 draw.
The world football governing body also fined Nigeria 6,000 dollars for the offence.
The sanction does not affect Nigeria’s World Cup qualification as they had already clinched a place in Russia before the Algeria tie.
