State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria have been cautioned against succumbing to pressure from some state governors who are working against the approval of the long awaited local government autonomy.
The Ondo state president of the Nigeria Union of Local government employees, NULGE, Comrade Bunmi Eniayewu made the observation at a news conference in Akure.
He urged the state lawmakers not to allow any governor to use them to truncate local government autonomy that all Nigerians are yearning for.
He called for the scrapping of the joint account between local councils and state governments
On the recent mass retrenchment of over 4000 local government workers and 22000 teachers by the Kaduna state government, Comrade Eniayewu described the action as inhuman.
The NULGE President also advocated the scraping of State Independent Electoral Commissions, SIEC nationwide, stressing that INEC should be constitutionally empowered to conduct credible election for local government.
