The Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service says the country generated $35 million from the export of hibiscus within nine months in 2017.
This was made known by the Coordinating Director, NAQS Vincent Isegbe, at the National Survey of 13 Agricultural Commodities by the Inter-ministerial Committee on Prevention and Control of Mycotoxins in Agricultural Commodities’ in Abuja.
Isegbe says hibiscus popularly called zobo has high commercial value that state governments could key into.
He added that organised hibiscus farmers’ clusters should be formed to increase the production and export volumes while bringing commodities that were lying low to ensure proper positioning for export.
Meanwhile, Jigawa State is the largest producer of the commodity, followed by Kastina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Zamfara, Borno and Yobe.
