The Rwanda Agriculture Board has commissioned a team of researchers to produce improved seeds for farmers.
The seed varieties include maize, millets and wheat.
The goal is to end the practice of importing maize, soya and wheat seeds, according to Rwanda Agriculture Board.
The agricultural board currently faces limitations from infrastructure, lack of qualified researchers, and poor incentives to work.
Rwanda currently imports about 3,000 metric tonnes of hybrid maize, wheat and soybean worth about $3.6 million per year, according to figures from Rwanda Agriculture Board.
