The Nigerian Customs Service said it is determined to curtail the illicit trade in fake drug and illegal importation of goods through the ports.Comptroller of Customs area two command Abubakar Bashir said this while displaying goods worth more than (N400m) 400 million naira seized at Onne port in Rivers State.
Correspondent Uche Okoro reports that in the last three months the Nigerian Customs Service has intercepted several shipments of fake drugs smuggled into the country through the Onne ports.
Concerned about the financial and health implication of these seizures, comptroller Abubakar Bashir says the Area-2 command will continue to enforce zero tolerance for activities that threatens the wellbeing of Nigerians.
Also within the first quarter of 2018, Customs officers in Rivers State say they have foiled series of attempts to bring in illegally imported rice into the Nigerian market through the Onne ports.
Customs authorities here, say the seized goods will be handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and control, NAFDAC for further action.
