The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it is considering burning unclaimed Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) before the 2019 general elections to prevent them from getting to the wrong hands.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Rufus Akeju dropped the hint at meeting on Monday with journalists in Ondo State held at the NUJ Press Center in Akure.
Currently, over three hundred and seventy thousand unclaimed PVCs are yet to be picked by the owners in the state.
Akeju said burning the cards subject to the commission’s directive and ratification would prevent unscrupulous persons from using them to frustrate the 2019 elections.
Akeju aid the burning process would be made open for all Nigerians to witness after all avenues have been explored.
