Members of the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE has threatened to mobilise their members across the country to vote against any party or state, that failed to embrace local government autonomy.
Addressing a press briefing in Akure, Ondo state capital, the Chairman of NULGE, Bola Taiwo said members of the union are equipped with voter cards to vote against any uncooperative state.
The need for local government autonomy has continued to be a subject of discourse in Nigeria.
Ten states in the nation have, as of the most recent, expressed an interest in granting local government administration the desired independence.
At a press briefing in Akure, Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, the leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE frowned at inability of 26 states to pass the local government autonomy bill.
The State president of NILGE, Bola Taiwo said financial autonomy cannot be achieved, as long as the burden of payment of teachers’ salary is not removed from local government councils.
He urged the state government to join other states that have passed the bill, by allowing the House of Assembly act on it.
The NULGE president vowed that the union will mobilise against any state that has refused to embrace local government autonomy.
