An attempt by a 22-year-old man, Ibrahim Oluwaseun, who pretended to be a passenger, to dispossess a commercial motorcyclist of his bike, was foiled by So-Safe Corps in Ogun State.
The motorcycle rider, Mr Bamidele Mujeeb, was rescued on Friday, September 9, 2022, while the robbery suspect was arrested.
An arm of Ogun State Government saddled with the responsibility of ensuring security and safety of the residents of the state, the So-Safe Corps carried out the rescue at about 2pm.
This was made known in a statement issued from the office of the State Commander of the So-Safe, Dr Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
Ganzallo, when he spoke during the decoration of the new Ipokia Area Commander, ACC Yusuf Aliu, few weeks ago, said that the Divisions under the Area Command were put on their toes to curb series of crime emanating from some okada riders, and also put a stop to miscreants attacking okada riders.
According to Ganzallo, the suspect, a 22-year-old resident of Olorogbo Compound, Asheko/Ibatefin Area of Ipokia Local Government, Ibrahim Oluwaseun, pretended to be a passenger and told the victim to take him from Aferiku Street, Idi’roko to Obalana Street, along Bebe road, leading to the Republic of Benin.
Ganzallo stated further that the suspect, on robbery mission, later instructed the bike rider to go through other narrow route that leads to the same destination.
Suddenly, the suspect reportedly brought out a weapon, later discovered to be a toy gun, and commanded the rider to surrender himself and the bike or lose his life.
“At the scene, the So-Safe Patrol Team, Idiroko Division, led by CSC Abdulkareem Muhammad, witnessed the funny act, pounced on the suspect and got him arrested.
“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime,” Ganzallo disclosed.
Meanwhile, the victim, the suspect and the exhibit – a motorcycle and a toy gun – had been handed over to the police at Idiroko Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
