Seventeen-year-old Francis James, from Plateau State, emerged victorious in the second edition of the Mangrove Marathon Race, defeating the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omowole Sowore.
The 10km eco-friendly race, held in Lagos, saw James claim the top spot and a cash prize of one million naira.
Among the female competitors, David Abiye-Joyce, a staff member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, secured the first position.
Earlier on, council chairman of the locality, Rasak Kasali, expressed gratitude to organisers and participants of the Mangrove Marathon Race.
The mangrove marathon seeks to highlight the role of mangrove to the environment, as it enhances water quality by filtering contaminants and capturing soil particles. It also serves as a buffer between marine and terrestrial communities, protect shorelines from damaging winds, waves, and floods.
