The national agency for food and drug administration and control says the vital support from the global fund’s resilient and sustainable systems for health grant of more than two million dollars has had profound impact on the agency’s goals of ensuring the availability of safe and high-quality medicines to Nigerians.
This disclosure formed the crux of an update on the global fund’s grant cycle six and the agency’s plan to sustain its efforts on future grants by the Director General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye on Monday in Abuja.
The global fund grant cycle six has so far covered over two years from 2021-2023.
Several budget lines were implemented during the grant cycle six coming up to a total of a little over two point three million dollars.
The national agency for food and drug administration and control admits that the grant has improved pharmacovigilance, product quality screening, laboratory analysis and traceability to ensure the availability of safe and high-quality medicines especially for Aids, tuberculosis and malaria health commodities to Nigerians.
The agency also reveals its commitment to ensuring sustainability for the successes achieved under the last grant cycle as a new grant cycle is in view.
This will be done through four key areas of Enhancing regulatory frameworks, capacity building, public awareness as well as encouraging partnerships.
NAFDAC says the ability , through the grant, to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks associated with pharmaceutical products has safeguarded public health.
It has also contributed to the overall trust and confidence in the healthcare system.
