Youth across the country especially National youth Corps members have been urged to embrace Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship as white collar Jobs are not readily again.
The State Coordinator, NYSC in Benue, Mr Dankaro Ashumate made the call while addressing the 2023 Batch C, Stream 1, corps members in Wanune orientation Camp.
National Bureau of Statistics reported that Nigeria’s unemployment rates was at 5.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 and 4.1 percent in the first quarter 2023
This is based on the new Nigeria Labour Force Survey.
However, some employed Nigerians are “underemployed”, which means they work less than 40 hours per week but declare themselves willing and available to work more.
About 12.2 percent of employed Nigerians were underemployed in First quarter of this year.
Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship development Is believed to be an escape from unemployment as it is designed to expose Nigerian youths to entrepreneurship.
The State Coordinator of NYSC in Benue, Dankaro Ashumate advised the Youth Corps Members to change their mindset and begin to learn from the SAED activities so that can start up businesses after services.
The Assistant Director, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship development branch, advises the Corp Members to continue their post Camp training activities as there are many funding opportunities to explore and develop their businesses.
Youth Corp members were trained in five different skill sets; namely Leather work, Barbing, Fashion and Design; Hair styling and makeup, and Agricbusiness
With skills learnt, they expressed readiness to be employers of Labour.
This Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship development is a 9-days in Camp training.
With more professional and skilled hands on deck, the economy would generate more productive jobs and meaningful work that can sustain households and lift many out of poverty.
