The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Tasiu Al’amin-Roba, a senior special assistant to the Cabinet Office, and Abdulkadir Muhammad for alleged diversion of the state’s palliatives.
The suspects were arrested at a warehouse in Sharada with over 200 empty bags while repackaging rice and maize meant to be shared as palliatives with the poor and vulnerable.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel while speaking to newsmen on the phone, says an intensive investigation has commenced to find out the number of bags repackaged and sold.
Usaini Gumel said that the two suspects would be charged in court after the conclusion of discreet investigations.
Meanwhile, The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has led a delegation of the Kano State Government in busting a Warehouse at the Sharada Industrial Area, Where Palliatives distributed by the State Government were diverted and to be sold in various markets.
A viral video shows Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf raiding the warehouse where more than 1,000 bags were kept.
The Governor who was visibly disappointed ordered the swift prosecution of those responsible and the subsequent distribution of the 10kg repackaged Maize bags to the needy.
