The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Tsoho says the Court has over One Hundred and forty- four thousand pending cases to determine in it 2023/2024 Legal Year.
He said this at the special court session held in Abuja to usher in the new legal year and also commemorate the court’s 50th anniversary.
A new legal year ceremony is an opportunity for members of the bench to reflect on their experiences and performances of the previous year, celebrate their accomplishments while also striving for a better year ahead.
Dressed in their Ceremonial Attire, the Judges of the Federal High courts nationwide, converged on the Court’s Headquarters for this event.
This year’s ceremony is significant as it also marks the court’s 50th anniversary.
The Federal Revenue Court ( as Federal High Court was then called) was established by the Federal Revenue Act 1973.
The Court was however christened “The Federal High Court” by Section 228 (1) and 230 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1979.
The court currently has 95 judges.
Speaking to judges at this event the chief judge of the expresses his gratitude to them on the speedy dispensation of pre-election cases arising from the 2023 General Elections.
He also reminds them to strive to be beyond suspicion as their actions can shape the destiny of the country as the court currently has 144,000 pending cases.
The Federal High Court as a premier Court of first instance has recorded impressive growth since its inception in 1973 and has become, an important pillar among the Courts in the Federal Judiciary of Nigeria.
