The House of Representatives is not pleased with the disposition of foreign companies operating in Nigeria, yet refuses to transfer skills to the Nigerians.
Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, made the observation when he received a delegation of businessmen from the Jilin Provincial People’s Congress, China.
National Assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa, reports that over time, many foreign organisations with business interests in Nigeria fail to equip Nigerians on their payroll with the requisite knowledge and expertise needed to do the job.
Instead, they prefer expatriates who hide their skills from their Nigerian counterparts.
A visit by the Jilin Provincial People’s Congress from China is an opportunity for Nigeria to appeal for a reversal.
Jilin province is widely known as the home of several automobile manufacturers including FAW Group Corporation, which is one of China’s largest automotive companies as well as petrochemical industries.
The Leader of the Group, Fan Ruiping. who spoke through an interpreter, says the visit is to explore areas of. collaboration between the two countries in manufacturing and technology advancement.
The Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, acknowledged the long existing diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and China.
He said exchange of ideas is significant to the growth of machinery in the manufacturing sector.
Benjamin Kalu is optimistic the aim of the visit is in tune with the objectives and goals of the current administration, particularly towards job creation and Poverty Alleviation
The deputy speaker assured his guests of parliament’s readiness to use legislative interventions to make the dream and purpose of the visit a productive one for and a win-win situation
