It has been a devastating New year so far for residents of Kunkurai and Ungwan Sako villages in Dawaki Ward, Makami district, Kauru LGA, Kaduna.
On the third of January at around 1:00 am, armed terrorists launched a vicious assault, resulting in grave casualties and abductions.
As of the time of reporting, the death toll has risen to at least 17 individuals, while 42 others have been forcefully abducted by armed terrorists responsible for a series of recent attacks across Kajuru and Kauru local councils.
TVC correspondent in Kaduna gathered that in response to the attacks, local vigilantes, known as Yan Sakai, in collaboration with brave villagers, pursued the assailants. This pursuit led them to Rafin Gora, situated on the border between Kauru LGA and Kajuru LGA.
However, the bandits, upon realizing they were being trailed, split into groups. While some continued with the kidnapped victims, others laid an ambush, resulting in the tragic deaths of eight villagers.
Additionally, several villagers sustained gunshot injuries, and at least a dozen motorcycles belonging to the villagers were set ablaze by the attackers.
Those injured in the assault were rushed to various hospitals for urgent medical attention, including a man who suffered head injuries and has been hospitalized.
Victims of both Christian and Muslim faiths, who lost their lives during the night attack and subsequent ambush, were laid to rest in Dokan Karji, Kunkurai, and Ungwan Sako villages, following respective Christian and Islamic rites.
Authorities of Kaduna State Police command are yet to comment on this distressing development.
