A former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba and elder statesman from the South-South, Edwin Clark, have indicated their support for the bill seeking to adopt a homegrown parliamentary system of government.
The elder statesmen made the pledge during separate visits by a delegation of legislators pushing for Nigeria’s return to Parliamentary governance.
The advocacy by a group of federal lawmakers sponsoring a bill for Nigeria to drop the Presidential system of government is still gaining momentum.
At the Abuja residence of elder stateman, Edwin Clark, the lawmakers, led by Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, said the Presidential system is too cumbersome.
Mr. Chinda insists Nigeria requires a homegrown structure that takes care of its diversity
Prominent South South Leader, Edwin Clark, applauded the bravery of the over sixty lawmakers spearheading the crusade for Nigeria’s rebirth.
He said there is an urgent need to address the root causes of the nation’s challenges
The team also visited APC Chieftain and former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba for his support.
At the end of the meeting behind closed doors, the former Governor believes a return to Parliamentary governance is what Nigeria needs in the midst of numerous challenges
In the weeks and months ahead, the parliamentary support group intends to have more consultations as the sixth constitution review process gets underway.
