Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum has officially inaugurated the 1,130,000 litre Azare Mega Water Project in an effort to address the problem of water shortage in the state.
The project according to the government is in accordance with accomplishing sustainable development goal number 6.
Lake Chad, which was formally one of the biggest bodies of water in Africa, is gradually drying up.
This is caused by climate change, an issue that world leaders are very concerned about.
The region now faces a severe water shortage due to the lake’s water contraction, which poses a serious threat to the livelihoods of over 50 million people who call the place a home.
This problem is being addressed with the creation of Azare Water Works.
It is one of the eight major water projects of the Zulum led administration.
This project includes an approximately 565,000 liter reservoir, a 400,000 litre corrugated surface tank and an overhead 165,000 liter > tank located 12 meters above ground.
It is expected that this move by the Zulum administration will bring about better access to water, good hygiene conditions and sanitation for local communities.
