Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has flagged off the construction of a 1,000-meter concrete walkway with an accompanying jetty at Obe-Nla community in Ilaje Local Government Area of the State.
The concrete walkway, which will have streetlight to illuminate the path of users, is a departure from the usual construction of wooden structures in coastal areas of the State.
Dignitaries including traditional rulers, notable sons and daughters of Ilaje graced the occasion which spoke volumes about the project’s importance.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said the initiative is a testament to his administration’s commitment to improving quality of lives of residents.
He emphasised his administration’s dedication to the development of the State, saying the project will change the narrative of underdevelopment in riverine communities.
The Governor acknowledged the community’s longstanding demand for a durable and safe concrete walkway, hence the decision to construct one for them.
He assured residents of the area that the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC, will receive the statutory 40 percent of the 13 percent oil derivation fund for the state as first line charge.
The Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan said the project will bring rapid development to oil producing communities.
