Hajj 2024: NAHCON clarifies amount of BTA for pilgrims

The Commissioner for Operations, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria , Anofiu Elegushi , has said that complaints about the 400 dollars Basic Travel Allowance given to pilgrims is caused by the inconsistency in the forex market.

He made this known during his visits to eight tents in Mina Saudi Arabia .

Before hajj 2024 , pilgrims made deposits of almost five million naira due to the dollar exchange rate.

The pilgrims were to be given five hundred dollars each for their allowance till the end of the hajj exercise .

But this was not the case as most pilgrims got less than five hundred dollars and some got extra hundred dollars each from their state governors or more .

To address this issue , the Commissioner for Operations , Nahcon Anofiu Elegushi visited eight tents in Mina to inform the pilgrims on why things turned out the way they did and encouraged them .

Other stakeholders who were present at the tents wanted Nahcon to continue to do more in ensuring welfare services of pilgrims.

But some Islamic scholars disagree and alleged corrupt practices on the part of hajj operators as reasons why some Nigerian pilgrims experience issues in welfare services.

Nigerian pilgrims are expected to head back in various batches.
