Some beneficiaries of surveillance contracts in Rivers and Abia States want the Federal Government to extend the security contract of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited to strengthen the fight against the stealing of the nation’s oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta region.
The stakeholders said this at a rally in Owaza community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State in appreciation of the company’s impact in their area.
The Ebubu Trunkline OML Eleven that flows from Odagwa community in Etche Council Area of Rivers State through Owaza and other communities in Ukwa West Council Area of Abia State was always a soft target for illegal oil bunkerers until October 2022 when Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited engaged the services of youths in the community for the protection of oil and gas assets.
After more than a year and eight months of protecting the pipelines, beneficiaries of the private security company covering Zone Three of Etche and Oyigbo Areas of Rivers State and eight other communities in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State meet at Umuololo area of Owaza.
The stakeholders embark on a rally through major roads before a brief stop at the Lion Junction area of the community.
