Abia State Government has concluded plans to empower 500 indigent widows with loans, healthcare services, skill development and vocational training among others.
Wife of the Governor, Priscilla Otti, stated this at the 2024 International Widows day celebration held in Umuahia.
Represented by the Wife of the deputy Governor, Mrs Otti, warned against outdated traditional practices against widows in the state.
She expressed readiness to protect their rights.
Some widows who narrated their experiences years after their husbands’ demise want the government to support them.
Themed “Land Rights For Windows”, the event featured lectures, distribution of food items, and empowerment of 51 indigent widows.
