A building under construction in Kano State has collapsed, claiming the lives of six people, including the owner and his child who were present at the site.
TVC News reports that the collapse also left eight others injured, currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The victims included construction workers and passersby seeking shelter during a heavy morning rainfall in the state.
Auwal Ahmad, the Ward Head of Dorayi Babba, in an audio clip obtained by TVC expressed sorrow over the incident.
“It’s an ugly and pitiful incident that occurred at our area, Unguwar Jakada. Some innocent builders were caught up while looking for their daily bread. I have with me five bodies of the dead, and I can see another one being brought out. Five people have sustained various degrees of injuries.” He stated.
Isma’il Umar, Second In Command to the Officer in charge of the surveillance unit of the Kano State Hisbah Command, who also confirmed the incident, stated that the cause of the collapse remains unclear.
Authorities in the state have since commence investigations to provide more details into the tragic incident continue.
