UK’S Prime Minister Keir Starmer has met with his new cabinet fulfilling his promise to begin work immediately if elected.
This comes as Labour won a landslide that rivals the all-time best it achieved under Tony Blair in 1997
His new cabinet includes Rachel Reeves as chancellor, Angela Rayner as deputy leader and Yvette Cooper as home secretary.
Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak has said he will stay on as Conservative leader for now until plans are in place to choose his successor.
It’s still not clear how and when his party would choose who will lead it in opposition.
The scale of the Tories’ defeat means some would be leadership candidates are no longer in parliament.
The Conservatives saw their vote squeezed by both Reform UK and the Liberal Democrats.
One cabinet minister who lost her seat – Penny Mordaunt, who often talked about as a future leader -warned her party not to move too far from the centre.
But the new father of the House of Commons, the senior Conservative Sir Edward Leigh said the Conservatives had been completely trashed in the election because the right-wing vote was divided.
