Thousands of residents in Sokoto throng the headquarters of the Sokoto-Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs where over fifty five litres of premium motor spirits otherwise known as petrol intercepted from smugglers was auctioned to resident at N180/ litres.
This is even as motorists have started queueing for fuel at major fueling stations in Sokoto metropolis
This seizure is the second of its kinds in the last one month by the operatives or the Command and the men of the Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria Customs.
Area Controller of the Command, Kamal Mohammed while addressing journalists before the commencement of the auction sales, said the high price of petrol pump price in the neighbouring countries sharing borders with Nigeria is the reason for the continual engagement in the illicit smuggling business.
He warned those engage in such act to desist as the Customs is determined to frustrate the activities of economic saboteur destroying the nation’s economy.
