Vice President, Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit as part of efforts by the Bola Tinubu administration to tackle hunger and hardship in the country.
VP Shettima said the nation is facing a food security crisis but if tackled properly would provide opportunities to build and reposition the nation on a firmer footing.
Food security seems to currently be a bigger problem in the country.
Several measure have been taken to tackle this clear and present danger, the latest is the inauguration of the Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit to tackle the soaring prices of commodities and general food insecurity in the county.
State governors are members of this crucial committee which is part of efforts towards combating food insecurity.
They all committed to strengthening the implementation of this food systems coordinating unit, with plans to modernize farming practices, increase crop yields, and transform the nation into a self-sufficient food producer.
The Food and Agricultural Organization FAO, on their part pledged their commitment to the success of the efforts made by the Federal Government aimed at addressing food insecurity in the country.
Due to the critical situation of food insecurity in the country, the Federal Government through formulation and implementation of policies has shown its determination to combat the problem as well as improve agricultural productivity in order to promote economic development in the country.
