Security operatives have dispersed youths protesting along the Kaduna-Abuja road just a few hours ago.
Eyewitnesses report that the youths were asked to delay their protest until the widely circulated date.
Federal and state governments have made several efforts to stop the protest, fearing it could be hijacked by hoodlums and enemies of democracy.
Last week, during a town hall meeting, the governor of Niger state, Umaru Bago, attempted to dissuade residents with welfare packages.
He “We are providing a N20,000 wage allowance for state and local government civil servants and releasing 50,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains at subsidized rates to ease economic hardship. We have over 100,000 metric tonnes of food in our reserves and will reduce food prices by 90% before the end of the year.”
The action of these youths portends that the protest is likely to still hold as earlier planned.
