The African Union (AU) Assessment Team has lauded the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) for its operational successes in the Lake Chad Basin region.
This was made known during the team’s visit to MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena.
Colonel Bedda Tumushabe, AU Headquarters’ strategic support cell officer, led the AU team and emphasised the MNJTF’s outstanding performance in the most recent Operation Lake Sanity 2.
Among these achievements, he said, are the widespread capitulation of rebels and the recovery of countless people throughout the area.
He expressed hope for the ultimate elimination of terrorist threats from the Lake Chad Basin and said that such developments have greatly inspired sustained cooperation from numerous international partners.
MNJTF Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali responded by thanking the AU for their continuous support.
He acknowledged the extra support that has been critical to the MNJTF’s operational performance.
He also stressed the importance of long-term commitment from all troop-contributing countries in order for the MNJTF to properly accomplish its mandate.
General Ali underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation between the AU and the MNJTF to ensure the long-term security and stability of the region.
