Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that the nation cannot advance until there are changes in the way people do things in the country.
He made this known in Abeokuta when he received members of the House of Representatives at his Presidential Library residence.
He said it has been noticed that Nigeria’s problem is not the structure of government or the tenure of leaders, but rather the people’s attitudes and the quality of leaders.
The former President stated this in response to comments made by six MPs from Imo State’s Ideato North and South Federal Constituencies, chaired by Ugochinyere Ikenga.
While speaking about the reason for the visit, the lawmakers said they are co-sponsors of bills seeking a single six-year term for the president and governors, power rotation between the northern and southern parts of the country, and a single day for presidential, governorship, national assembly, and state assembly elections.
The former president said the challenges confronting the nation would be overcome if Nigerians critically re-examined themselves and do the right thing at all times.
He also attributed purposeful leadership and a solid team as one of the factors capable of driving positive development in the country.
