Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state has expressed sadness over the boat accident that claimed forty lives in Gummi local government area of the State.
The boat capsized early hours of Sunday after losing control in the Bakin Kasuwa River of Uban Dawaki Ward, Gummi local government
In a pres statement signed by spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris says the governor described the boat mishap as a monumental disaster
He called for calm sympathize with the local government, families and relations of the victims
Governor Dauda Lawal further directed the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) to expedite rescue and recovery operations.
Dr. Lawal also instructed the Ministry of Humanitarian affairs to coordinate and provide relief and support to the families of those affected
“We woke up to the tragic report of a boat accident in Bakin Kasuwa River in Uban Dawaki ward, Gummi local government area, resulting in the loss of over 40 lives.
“Governor Lawal has directed the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) to take immediate action to assess the extent of the accident and provide urgent assistance following the unfortunate incident. The Gov. Said.
“The governor also instructed the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters to coordinate all efforts to provide immediate relief support to the victims and their families” He directed.
Governor Lawal prayed for the souls of the departed victims, grieved with families, and assured of the state government’s commitment to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The Zamfara government however assures that all hands are on deck to prevent future occurance of the incident
This is the second time in less than three months that locals in the Gummi Local Council Died in Boat Mishap
The first was as a result of fleeing from bandits attack to the other side of the river which the boat capsized following over load of passengers.
