The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned till 21st January 2025 for ruling on the application filed by the EFCC seeking to trial the former governor of Kogi state in absentia.
Counsel to the EFCC kemi Phinero had predicated his application on section 275 of the ACJA.
He prayed the court that view of that section the court should enter a plea of not guilty for Mr Bello and proceed with his trial.
The application became imperative as a court cannot demonstrate helplessness as it will be an indication to anarchy.
A criminal trial must not be truncated or held hostage because of a defendant’s refusal to engage the process.
Justice Nwite adjourned proceedings for ruling and possible arraignment.
