The Imo State Police Command has confirmed an explosion at Orlu international market that killed two people suspected to be members of indigenous people of Biafra.
In Statement by the police public relations officer, Henry Okoye, the two suspects were carrying an improvised explosive device (IED) on a motorcycle with the intention of planting it at Orlu International Market, near Mbari Okporo.
Fortunately, the explosive detonated before they could carry out their plan, killing both of them instantaneously and averting a far worse tragedy.
According to Mr. Okoye, two passersby were hurt in the incident and were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police authorities say preliminary investigations indicate that the two deceased may have been involved in earlier IED explosions in the Omuma and Orlu settlements on November 3rd, 2024, which injured two people.
