Three corpses have been found with over 20 persons missing in a boat accident on the river Benue near Ocholonya in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday.
The Agatu local government chairman, Melvin Ejeh confirmed that over 70 persons mostly women and children were on the capsized wooden boat.
The victims recognized to be traders returning to Odenyi in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after attending the Ocholonya market, were caught in the mishap.
Mister Ejeh said that on the way to their base which is “in Apochi and Odenyi communities in Doma, Nasarawa State, the boat they were traveling in capsized.”
The chairman further revealed that he had contacted the Nigerian Navy commander in the LGA to assist in the rescue operation.
