Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has presented the Staff of office to the new Alaaafin of Oyo, Hakeem Ademola Owoade, in his office in Ibadan.
Hakeem Ademola Owoade is the 46th occupant of the Alaafin Stool.
The ceremony took place on Monday at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, with dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and Oyo indigenes in attendance.
In his remarks, Governor Makinde expressed optimism that the Alaafin-elect would preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the Oyo Kingdom.
He emphasised the significance of the Alaafin’s role as more than a traditional leader but as a custodian of the kingdom’s rich history and traditions. Makinde expressed confidence that Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade would lead with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to unity.
Prince Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who ruled the Oyo Kingdom for 50 years.
In his acceptance speech, the new Alaafin expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo and pledged to prioritize the kingdom’s development and the welfare of its people.
