The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the third-party vehicle insurance policy across the state’s 27 local government areas, to enhancing road safety and protecting innocent third parties.
According to the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the enforcement, which began on February 1, 2025, is in compliance with the Insurance Act 2003 and a directive from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Motorists are urged to obtain valid third-party insurance policies from licensed insurance entities authorized by the National Insurance Commission.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized that this policy facilitates the safety of innocent third parties and ensures financial recovery in the event of an accident.
Vehicle owners without insurance are advised to obtain it promptly to avoid embarrassment.
The CP insisted that the exercise will continue statewide until all vehicle owners comply with the policy.
The CP warned officers involved in the enforcement to maintain professionalism, respect human rights, and avoid extortion, with disciplinary action to be taken against errant officers.
This development comes as other states, like Kano, Plateau, Enugu and Zamfara begun enforcing the third-party motor vehicle insurance policy.
