Kebbi State Government has begun distribution of wedding materials to 300 couples ahead of a mass wedding ceremony.

The event, scheduled to take place on the 27th of February 2025, before the start of Ramadan Fasting, is part of the state government’s efforts to support vulnerable members of society.

The mass wedding planning committee, in collaboration with Nanas Foundation, has been working to ensure the success of the event.

According to the commissioner of information Yakubu Ahmad, this year’s ceremony has introduced new features, including the presentation of wedding gifts to the couples earlier than previously done, courtesy of the state government.

Yunusa Alramma, Commissioner for Animal Husbandry, who represented the chairman of the main committee, said Governor Nasir Idris has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the society, citing food, housing, and social support as top priorities.

Adding that as part of the mass wedding initiative, the governor has pledged to pay 180 thousand Naira as dowry for the couples, while the grooms are required to provide a house and present evidence of same.

The distribution of wedding materials, which includes kitchen utensils, mattresses, pots, and other essential items, is a significant aspect of the event. This gesture is aimed at supporting the newlywed couples as they begin their new life together.

Chairman Arugungu fishing festival Safiyanu Bena highlighted that the event is expected to bring joy and relief to the beneficiaries, while also promoting social cohesion and community development.
