Zainab Nasir Idris, Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, has empowered farmers through the Renewed Hope Initiative Agriculture Support Programme.
The programme is designed to support farmers, particularly women and youth, to improve agricultural production and food security in Kebbi State.
The first lady extended the empowerment programme to four Emirates Councils: Yauri, Zuru, Argungu, and Birnin Kebbi with the initiative expected to boost agricultural production and improve food security in these areas.
The beneficiaries will receive farm materials, including rice seedlings, fertilizer, pesticides, and cash grants, to support their farming activities.
In Yauri, 100 female farmers were empowered with rice seedlings, fertilizer, pesticides, and N100,000 cash complement of cash grant donated by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Additionally,100 young farmers’ clubs were empowered with 10 varieties of improved seeds and seedlings, fertilizer, power tillers, and N20,000 cash in Arugungu local government area of kebbi were young farmers were drawn from five schools in the state and were advised to prioritize farming and home gardening to generate income and become self-reliant.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, directed Principals to encourage the formation of Young farmers clubs in their schools.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Food Security, Mr. Joel Aiki, while delivering a speech, explained strategies and methodology for obtaining maximum yields in agricultural production.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Halima Hassan, donated 30 hectares of land in Yauri to Young farmers clubs in the Emirate for cultivation.
The beneficiaries were advised to utilize the donated resources effectively and sustain home gardens and farming to generate income and become self-reliant.
And also 100 farmers were empowered with farming materials in Zuru Emirate were the first lady was conferred with the tittle Garkuwan matan dabai.
