The Benue State Government through its emergency management agency has donated food items to leaders of the Muslim community in the State to cushion economic effects as they celebrate Ramadan.
Performing the ceremony in Makurdi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and State Emergency Management, SEMA, James Iorpuu, said the gesture was to cushion their difficulty during of the fast.
Productivity decreases from 35% to 50% due to shorten working hours, and inability to focus with no access to food or beverage till sunset and fewer hours of sleep.
Despite the fact that Ramadan is a fasting month, food consumption during the time of “Iftar” to “Suhoor” exceeds normal consumption pattern.
Not only food bills increase by 50-100% during Ramadan, but it is reported that 83% of families change their food consumption habits during Ramadan.
Benue State government through the emergency management department has weigh in to support the Muslim faithful with food items.
Leader of Imams in the State appreciates the Governor for the gesture and assured that the food items would be shared among all the members of the Muslim community in the State.
Chairman, Makurdi Local Government Council encouraged the people to keep faith in the present administration, as it was poised to provide peoples oriented projects.
Items include distributed includes, four hundred bags of rice, four hundred bags of maize and ten bags of orange.
