Members of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors(NIS) in Ondo State have urged the state government to be more proactive in tackling security challenges.
They also urged political leaders in the state to avoid making statements that could exacerbate tensions or threaten the lives of state professionals.
Addressing reporters at their secretariat, the state Chairman of the association, Tajudeen Bello, said members of the institution are reluctant to travel to the field because of the unguided statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on special responsibilities.
He stated that, contrary to media reports, those kidnapped were field staff working for a specific surveyor in the state.
Mr. Bello emphasized that one of the Government’s primary responsibilities is to provide security for its residents, therefore it must prioritize making the state safer for all citizens.
He believes that asking surveyors to employ police escorts during fieldwork is impracticable.
