The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum says there was no Congress or zonal election in the south-south as far as the National Working Committee is concerned.
He said this during the inauguration of the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt had previously issued a restraining order against the PDP and National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dan Orbih, preventing them from holding the zonal congress.

However, despite the court ruling, the PDP proceeded with the zonal congress on February 22, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.
The National Working Committee, has now declared the congress Null and void with the inauguration of a caretaker committee chaired by Emmanuel Ogidi.
The caretaker committee will oversee PDP activities in the South-South until a new Zonal Executive Committee is elected, in line with the party’s constitution.
The latest crisis between the former Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike and the South-South Governors appears to be threatening the grip of the party in the region.
