President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the neglected Nnamdi Azikwe’s Mausoleum after 20 years, with a promise to inaugurate the board that will ensure smooth running of the facility.
He also urged Nigerians to emulate the late national icon, who put Nigeria first.
The president said the building will be a reminder to everyone to remember what the former president stood for, adding that it will serve the purpose to promote nationalism, patriotism in public serve.
He urged the people to join the present administration to build a Nigeria that the unborn generations will live to commend them in the near future.
The president described Nnamdi Azikiwe as his role model in politics, whose penchant to nationalistic gesture would ever be remembered by all Africans.
While stating some of the challenges s face to realize the project at the record time, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing reiterates the resolve of the present administration to complete abandoned projects that have direct impact on the lives of the common man.
The family of the late pan-Africanist extolled the president for taking it upon himself to actualize the mausoleum that was neglected by successive administration, urged the president to ensure Onitsha indigenes are included in the board to manage the facility when constituted.
Participants at the occasion commended the president for the honour done to Ndigbo said the people will surely reciprocate the gesture done out of prejudice.
The president was earlier received at the Obi of Onitsha palace, later proceeded to Holy Trinity Cathedral Onitsha to continue his reelection campaign in Anambra state .
