An Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been killed by suspected herdsmen at Umuachi-Afor community, in Delta State.
TVC News gathered that the Police officer, who, was attached to the Ashaka police divisional headquarters, had led a rescue team in search of the herdsmen who had been terrorizing the area.
Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident, said the team was on a mission to rescue a kidnap victim when they were ambushed.
The herdsmen then opened fire on the Police rescue team, shooting the ASP in the process.
The PPRO said the officer died in the hospital where he was rushed to for treatment.
The identity of the deceased police officer, will be made known by the police, after his family is informed. The Police say reinforcement has been sent into the bush to capture the herdsmen.
