Long queues began to emerge at Petrol stations in some parts of the country on Friday with speculations that there may be severe scarcity of the product which led to some sort of panic.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has asked citizens to disregard the rumour as there is no issue to be worried about. The nation’s oil company claim to have over one billion litres of petrol in stock, while imports of 48 vessels of 50 million litres each have been committed for
this month alone.
But illegal hawking of petrol on the street of the nation’s capital, Abuja is now brisk business as impatient motorists buy from the black market to save time and the trouble of waiting endlessly on the queue.
Angry motorists blame the government for the perennial fuel shortage that inflicts hardship on the population.
