Nigeria spends about $1 billion annually on the importation of fish.
This was disclosed by Director, Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Adekunle Oreseguna at a vocational training and empowerment on aquaculture production and fish post harvest for youths and women in Ebonyi State.
Mr. Oreseguna noted that the country has a huge potential for fish production, which would save the country about $1 billion, used on importation.
He added that the country is deficient in fish production and wants to increase the number of people who have knowledge and skills for fish farming.

He further urged government to create enabling environment that will boost fish production in Nigeria.
