Yola Catholic Diocese seeks government’s protection

The Yola Catholic Diocese is seeking the protection of the federal government following recent attacks by herders on Saint Rita Spiritual year seminary, in Numan, Adamawa State.

Adamawa State has had its fair share attacks by home grown terrorists, Boko Haram and herdsmen.

The Basso farming community in Numan local government is now ghost of its former self as residents have deserted the area.

The community which hosts Catholic seminary and government primary and secondary schools, is no longer habitable due to fear of herdsmen attack.

Going to the area is a risky voyage without security presence.

The rector in charged of the vandalized catholic school in the community, Rev Moses Daniel spoke on reasons why the area is now a target of
herdsmen, explained that there are no plans to reopen the abandoned schools in the community due to the failure of relevant authorities to provide the needed security.

The special church service held at Bare Gwandang where displaced persons from sacked communities now reside.

The Church assisted the displaced with food, and presiding Minister Bishop Dami Manza advised them not to lose hope in the commitment of the
authorities to return them to their ancestral homes.

The occasion also witnessed six weddings in which six of the victims were reunited with their families.

The people of Numan local government have now been forced away from the banks of river Gongola by herdsmen. Their prayer is to is to see peace return to their domains.
