Enugu state Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Ammani has ordered the State Criminal
Intelligence and Investigation Department, CIID to conduct a full-scale investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of one Chinyere Odoh, with her two children and two sisters.
The two children include a seven-year-old Udochukwu Odo, and her four-year-old brother, Chukwuemeka Odo, as well as Odo’s two sisters, Martina Ezeme, and Ngozi Ezeme.
The five victims were discovered dead in their apartment at Amutenyi in Obollo-Afor community of Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Saturday morning.
The statement signed by the spokesperson for the police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe revealed that preliminary investigation conducted so far shows that the deceased persons went to bed the previous night and were not seen in the morning after.
However, their lifeless bodies were found in two separate rooms they slept in, when Police Operatives from Udenu Police Division of the Command, who swiftly responded to a distress call on the incident, forcefully opened the doors of the rooms.
They were immediately moved to the hospital and confirmed dead by doctors on duty, and their corpses deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
It will be recalled that 5 members of the same family were discovered at Amutenyi in the Obollo Afor Community of the Udenu Local Government of Enugu State on Saturday morning with many describing the deaths as mysterious.
This is not the first time this kind of unexplained deaths has been recorded anywhere in Nigeria with some of the earlier deaths eventually linked to fumes from poorly placed generators.
It is left to be seen if this will also go down as another mass death linked to generator fumes or any such other reasons.
