This summation was made at the 3rd Annual Lecture of Oba Sikiru Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance, held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Local government remains the closest arm of government to the people but despite it’s closeness, many communities are still begging for attention of the government
And for a man who has been on the throne for close to six decades and has remained relevant in governance, administration and politics of the
country, coming up with the idea of Professorial Chair and choosing a topic on Grassroots Governance and Nigeria’s political architecture to celebrate his 85th birthday, remains strategic.
Scholars, politicians, businessmen and other eminent Nigerians converged on Adeola Odutola hall, Ijebu Ode to discuss how to solve the problems Confronting Local government in the country.
While delivering the lecture, Professor Ayodele Olukotun maintained that local government has failed and called for active participation of
communities.
