The Minister of Education has called for improved budgetary allocation for the Education Sector.
The minister while addressing journalists at his Valedictory briefing in Abuja said, that was the only way the Nigerian education system can compete with other education systems in the world.
Nigeria’s budgetary allocation for the Education sector since 2009 has always been below 10%
This, many believe has affected the development of the sector.
In the past, Nigerian universities attracted students from other African Countries as well as foreign lecturers due to the high standard of its education system.
Today, the reverse is the case, Apart from lecturers leaving Nigeria in large numbers for greener pastures, thousands of students are also leaving the country to study abroad even in neighbouring countries like Ghana and Benin Republic.
The minister of Education Adamu Adamu believes that, the Nigerian education system will do better with improved funding of the sector.
As the both education Ministers give account of their stewardship, they believe that the issue of out-of –school children and the huge number of adult illiteracy can become a thing of the past
But it must take government improving on current efforts in the development of education in the country.
Nigeria is one country still striving to bring its education sector up to speed.
