The Peoples Democratic Party has recently been beset by internal strife in several state chapters and member disaffection, which has increased the number of key party figures who have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba has said the current internal crisis won’t affect the party’s chances at the 2023 General Elections.
“The PDP is alive. We are active and we are working hard on our mission statement.

Member of PDP Presidential Campaign Council Oladimeji Fabiyi has reacted to the internal dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party.
Speaking on Thursday’s edition of TVC Breakfast with Veronica Dan-Ikpoyi and Sam Omatseye, Mr Fabiyi said the Chairman of the party Iyiorcha Ayu will definitely step down after the election.
He noted that the party cannot risk removing the national chairman few months to the election, especially when there are a lot of processes to be followed.
“We cannot afford to conduct a special national convention now to remove the national chairman before the election.
“The candidate of the party made it abundantly clear that is a constitutional matter.
“Whatever discussion that must have transpired between two persons is not binding on the party because there are processes which must be followed.
According to Mr. Fabiyi, the party cannot take the risk of removing the party chairman now especially as the elections are just a few months away.
Mr. Fabiyi noted that the PDP is well entrenched in every state irrespective of what is currently going on.
“PDP has original members in each of the state and whatever happens, they will follow the decision of their party.
“We have the governors who control everything because of the way politics is configured, but that does not mean PDP will not have its share of the members the society will vote for.
“It is a matter of getting t right and that is what PDP is essentially doing.
Mr. Fabiyi reiterated the party’s efforts at reconciliation which according to him is an ongoing process.
The presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has not foreclosed any reconciliation moves effort being made and the party is also doing its own.
“it is normal for any leader who understands, the value of going to election united will do.
“The campaign was not also halted because of Governor Wike, i do not know where people are getting that notion.
“But if that were so, there is nothing wrong with it because governor Wike, like every other person is a stakeholder in the party and a party that wants to go into election united will make every effort to close ranks and bring everyone together.
“If campaigns were not held to accommodate the people who were not happy, i don’t think there is anything wrong in that.
