President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the national security council meeting at the council chambers, in the presidential villa.
This meeting will appraise the security situation across the country and also develop strategies towards tackling all threats to national security.
The federal government says the military will eliminate all forms of banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes by December this year.
The President also commended the military for the recent successes in handling issues of national security especially with release of the remaining victims kidnapped in the kaduna train attack.
Among those present are Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation; Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president, and Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), the national security adviser (NSA).
Heads of security agencies in attendance include Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao; and the Chief of Defense Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo
Others are the Inspector-General of Police,Alkali Baba Usman,the Director-General of the Department of State Service, Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar.
The Security Council meeting is the latest in the series of efforts aimed at ensuring that the recent lull in the activities of Terrorists, Bandits and Other criminal elements across the Country is sustained with a the kind of kinetic Military operations that has been on for a few weeks now by the Military.
The campaign which involves all the branches of Security and Armed Forces has yielded some outstanding results especially in the Northwest which has been the hotbed of the activities of Bandits/Terrorists for about a decade now.
The meeting will also review the progress and Otherwise made so far from the different Security operations across the country.
